Sand Filter 101
Maintain your sand filter often for best efficiency and a clean pool.
What does the sand filter do?
The filter runs pool water through sand to remove dirt and debris and return clean water back to the pool.
How do I check the filter?
Dirt and debris will accumulate in the sand and cause the pressure to rise. Put your hand against the filter to check for pressure. Check the pressure gauge. If the pressure has reached 8-10 psi, it needs to be backwashed.
How do I backwash the filter?
If your pool is looking funky or your pressure gauge is high, it’s time to backwash the filter.
- Turn off the pump
- Switch valve to “backwash”
- Attach the waste hose
- Run the pump for 2 minutes
- Switch to “rinse” and run the pump for 1-2 minutes so no dirty water goes back into the pool
- Return valve to “filter” and check the pressure gauge
Easy peasy lemon squeazy…ya know, for your drink…while you admire your clean pool.
