Maintaining Your Pool Equipment
Pools can be a huge responsibility, but they are not impossible to maintain and keep in working order. Keeping up with the various parts and aspects of a pool can ensure an increase of longevity in the liner, water, pump and filter. Here are a few steps you can take and products to purchase to ensure a pristine pool all season:
Water Tests
Balanced water allows pool goers to enjoy it without having to worry about their eyes burning, breaking out into rashes or any bacteria in the water. Your pool will also thank you as a balanced pool lessens the chance of algae, puts less wear on the liner and pump and keeps the water crystal clear. Hydra Hot Tubs and Pools sells test strips, but also offers free in-house water tests at both of our locations.
Aquacheck 7 Test Strips, Frog @ease test strips and Aquachek Spa 6-in-1 are available for sale in our stores.
Magic Lube
Magic Lube is to be used on o-rings on the pump lid and filter tank to reduce friction that could lead to cracking. It is recommended to add the Magic Lube every month and a half to two months to the o-rings.
Aladdin Magic Lube is PTFE based, non-toxic, non-melting, waterproof and is available for sale at both of our locations: Fort Mill and Rock Hill.
Filter Savers
Filter savers are skimmer basket socks that prevent larger debris from going through the skimmer and into the pump and filter and creating a possible blockage. The sock should be removed at least twice a week to prevent an excess accumulation of debris. Filter savers collect leaves, grass, hair, oil, pine needles, pollen and other debris.
Hydra sells filter savers at both of our locations: Fort Mill and Rock Hill.
Backwashing
Sand filters need to be backwashed once the PSI reads 8-10 on the pressure gauge. Backwashing can take around 2-3 minutes, but the best way to know when to stop is when the sight glass becomes clear. It is recommended to backwash once every week, or at least check the pressure gauge once a week.
Simply turn the pump off and then turn the filter dial to backwash and the water will disperse from the backwash hose. When done, refill the pool to the necessary level and then turn the dial back to filter. Also keep in mind that the sand in sand filters should be replaced every 3-5 years.
We sell the products listed at both of our locations (Fort Mill and Rock Hill) and if you have any service questions, feel free to give one of our service techs a call: 803-992-0023
