Pool Care Myths
Not everything you hear is true. Here are 5 common pool care myths that many people truly believe.
1. “Salt Water Pools Have No Chlorine”
NOT TRUE! Salt systems make chlorine using a process called electrolysis, meaning your salt water pool is actually a chlorine pool.
2. “You Don’t Need To Shock Salt Water Pools”
NOT TRUE! To prevent algae growth and keep your water sanitized, you’ll still want to shock the pool regularly.
3. “Chlorine Burns My Eyes”
NOT TRUE! It’s actually the byproduct of chlorine, chloramines, or caused by low pH. This means it is time to shock the pool or raise the pH.
4. “You Should Shower Before Getting In The Pool”
TRUE! From sweat to cosmetics, your body introduces a lot of contaminants in the water. Showering before entering will help the water’s chemistry overall.
5. “You Should Turn Off Your Pump During a Rainstorm”
NOT TRUE! Unless the pump is located in an easily flooding area, you should actually leave your pump running. This allows water to continue circulating through the filter, keeping the pool water clear.
