How to Open Salt Pools and Pools with Ionizers Using EZ Pool

It is best to open your above ground pool sooner rather than later because stagnant water in hot weather can result in algae. Extreme heat can start to warp and damage your pool, so circulated water in consistently hot weather is very important. EZ Pool is recommended for startup when opening the pool as it acts as an oxidizer, clarifier and algaecide. It maintains your water balance and will cut your chemical costs in half and help to reduce manual labor from adding chemicals.

Here’s how to open your above ground pool using EZ Pool:

Opening an Above Ground Pool With An Ionizer

    1. Connect and tighten all hoses and pipes that were removed for winterization. Plug up your pump drain and filter drain, those plugs should be located in the pump’s strainer pot.
  • Reconnect your ionizer and set it to the proper number
    1. Remove the winter cover and any pillows you may have used. You can store those and use them next winter.
    2. Start adding water to the pool if it is in good condition. You should fill your pool up to the third screw on your skimmer.
    3. Start cleaning any debris that may have gotten into the pool. You can do this using your telescopic pole and a net.
    4. Watch for any leaks at the equipment (pump, filter, hoses, etc). Tighten anything that may be loose.
    5. Set your sand filter to ‘FILTER’ and turn on the pump once the pool is full of water.
    6. Don’t forget to add your ladder. Be careful not to damage the liner.
  • Add EZ-Pool (amount will vary based on volume of your pool). This will both help clear up cloudiness if the water is cloudy and will help prevent it from worsening. EZ Pool can then be used for weekly maintenance
  1. Clean the pool as normal and test/balance the water.
  2. Enjoy swimming in your pool!

Opening a Salt Pool

Opening a salt pool with EZ Pool is no different from how you’ve opened it the previous years, but this addition will help the water’s clarity so you can start swimming as early in the swim season as possible. After clearing out debris, adding water if it’s low and checking the salt generator, add EZ Pool (amount will vary based on volume of your pool) to give the pool a boost. This will not throw off the chemical balance. After adding EZ Pool, test your water and add what is necessary to balance the levels. EZ Pool can then be used for weekly maintenance
