Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Use My Ionizer?

After bringing a water sample to our store for testing and balancing, and adding chemicals to the pool, plug in the ionizer and set it to level 3. Let it run for 3 days, then use the copper test strips to test the copper level. You want the copper level to be around .5. If it’s low, go up 1 level, if it’s high, go down 1 level. Never move more than 1 level at a time. In 3 more days, test the copper level again. Once you get it close to .5, it should be set. Keep your alkalinity and ph in ok range, and the ionizer will do the rest. Be sure to shock and add a maintenance dose of algaecide once a week. (Occasionally other chemicals may be needed for other issues)

How Do I Add Chemicals?

Follow the instructions on the bottle or bag for adding chemicals. In most cases, liquids can be added directly to the pool water. For granular Shock, do not pour directly in the pool, as it can ruin your liner. Run it through the skimmer into the sand filter so it can dissolve.

I Have a Leak! What Do I do?

We do not get to see water running through the filter in most cases, and occasionally there may be a drip. Usually it is a simple solution. If it is at one of the hoses, usually if you loosen, spin and tighten the clamp, or add a second clamp behind the first one. If the leak is at a fitting, you can try tightening it, or if you feel froggy, you can unscrew it, add more teflon and silicon, and put it back in. That will normally take care of the issue. If you try, and can’t stop it, just let us know, and we will get back out to take care of it.

I Think I Have A Hole In My Liner!?

You have a warranty on your liner and, in most cases, it is a prorated 20-25 year warranty. This warranty covers any manufacturer defects in the seam. This warranty does not cover any holes put in the liner. When brushing, vacuuming or just playing with toys in the pool, be careful because we have seen damage done with these items (especially around the cove area). Keep in mind, holes can be patched with a patch kit, and these patches usually will hold for the life of your liner. If we come to patch or look for a leak, and it is not a manufacturer defect, you are subject to a service call charge.

How Do I Patch A Hole?

There is no easy way to find holes, you just have to look for them. The holes can be patched under water. Patch kits (sold at your local pool store, Lowes, Wal-Mart, etc…) will come with clear vinyl to patch the hole. If you have a piece of liner, that also will work. Just cut the patch with no corners, make it round and larger than the hole, apply the glue, and place it on the hole. Rub it until it holds solid and is flat.

How Do I Close My Pool?

Some people choose to run the pool all winter. If that’s the case, just keep the leaves out, and make sure you are running the filter whenever the temperature is getting close to freezing. If you close the pool, use winterization chemicals (non-chlorine shock and algaecide) and lower the Ph, circulate for 24 hours, drain the water below the return, and drain all the water from the lines, such as the ionizer, filter and pump. Then just put the winter cover on. Be sure to put a float or pillow in the middle to keep the cover raised, and occasionally clean the water off of the cover.

Can I Put a Deck Around My Pool?

When building a deck around the pool, it is recommended deck stay lower than the top of the rails. Leave a minimum of 1”-2” between the deck and the pool. If you prefer no gap, use trim boards. The purpose of this is that over the years, at some point you will most likely need to change the liner. The more difficult it is to get the rails and top caps off, the more expensive the labor could be. Also, if you are building the deck over top of the filter, consider putting a trap door over the filter so it will be easier to get to, or possibly move the filter out from under the deck. This may require longer hoses or hard plumbing of the filter.

Can I Drain The Water Out of My Pool?

Unless you are planning to change the liner, never drain all the water out of the pool. There is no reason to drain it to clean it. You can use chemicals to clean the water if it gets green or some other color. Liners stretch in, and if you take the water out, they will shrink, and not re-stretch. Also, wrinkles are almost impossible to get out if this happens.

What is the Right Water Level?

The water level of the pool should be between the 2 middle screws, preferably up to the 2nd from the top. If the water is too low, it will cause the pump to work extra hard. If the water is too high, the skimmer will not work properly.
